Last week of Ultimate
Monday, June 03, 2013 9:00 AM

Hey Barton Disc Dogs!

This is the last week of the spring Ultimate season, and here is the rest of our schedule:

No practice tomorrow (6/4/13) --Valley Fair.

There is no practice on Thursday (6/6/13) either, but there IS a game on Saturday (6/8/13)!

Please be at the Edina HS fields at 3:00pm for Saturday's game! Bring water, bring your jersey, bring your disc, etc etc.

See you there!

Southwest Ultimate Game + Schedule Change
Thursday, May 16, 2013 9:40 AM

I wanted to let you know that there are two ultimate games tonight at the Southwest High School Stadium! (48th and Abbott-ish. It's on the same giant block as Pershing Park). First, the Southwest girls (ranked 1st in the state!) will play against the South girls A team at 5:00pm, and then the Southwest boys will play South at 6:30! Both of those match-ups are always exciting, and I highly recommend going. It's completely free, and a lot of you might end up going to South or Southwest for high school, so this is a chance to watch some good Ultimate right in your neighborhood, while supporting your future school/team!

Secondly, here are some important changes to the schedule:

SATURDAY MAY 18th: The game is NOT AT PAMELA PARK. The location has been changed to the Edina HS lower north fields. (Park in the north parking lot and walk down the hill to get to the fields.)
Here's a map: http://goo.gl/maps/KoSg6. We are playing on the fields to the northwest of the school labeled "EHS Summer School" (I don't know why they're labeled that. There is nothing but grass there).
Also, Saturday's game will be Barton X vs. Barton Y, instead of what was previously scheduled.

Finally, all the jerseys are finally here! You'll get one today! Hooray!

Learning Experience!
Sunday, May 12, 2013 8:00 AM

Barton's first ultimate games were a bit of a learning experience with Barton X losing to South View 1-11, and Barton Y losing to Valley View 2-11.  Everyone did seem to have a good time though, and many Barton players stayed for a Barton vs. Barton scrimmage after the official games.  See photos...

Teams + Jerseys + Fields
Friday, May 10, 2013 9:15 AM

Check your team, bring a red shirt and a water bottle to the game on Saturday, the bathrooms at Lyndale Farmstead will be locked (just a heads up), and get excited to play some fun Ultimate on Saturday!

Practice Homework
Thursday, April 18, 2013 3:25 PM

So, just because there's no practice today doesn't mean you get out of learning about Ultimate. I'd like you all to watch at least the first two of these videos sometime over the weekend.

Practice + Waivers + Fun!
Wednesday, April 17, 2013 7:30 AM
  • Awsome first practice!
  • Waiver forms - need to be in before next practice.
  • Picking up students after practice - 4:00 at Lyndale Farmstead.

Updated Schedule
Monday, April 15, 2013 1:25 PM

Due to the bad weather we've been having, and the fact that we had to cancel practice last week (and may have to again this Thursday), I have changed the overall schedule of the season, moving the whole game schedule back by one week, as well as the last week of practice.

The new schedule is as follows:

  • Practice Tues/Thur every week through Tuesday, June 4 (The last day of school)
  • Games will start on Saturday May 11, and will be every Saturday afternoon, through Saturday June 8 (This is after school ends, just to be clear!)

Saturday May 25th is conflicts with the College National Championships (of Ultimate, of course) in Madison WI. It's likely that we won't have middle school league games that day because coaches will be attending that tournament. However, many of the games from college nationals will be live-streamed online, with commentary! It's a great opportunity to watch some of the best Ultimate teams/players in the country compete (from the comfort of your living room!) I'll send out more information on that the details of that, and whether or not there will be games that day, as we get closer to May.

You will be receiving an email from me in the next few days with details about where/when the games will be!

We Are the Barton Ultimate Disc Dogs!
Friday, April 12, 2013 7:35 AM

The winning jersey design was the Disc Dogs design by Phil and Gillian Bode! Thank you to those two for such an awesome design! Thanks also to everyone else who contributed designs or names! I really appreciate all the thought and work you put into them.

So, our ultimate team is now officially the Barton Disc Dogs! It's a cool name and a great design.

Need a Team Name
Sunday, April 07, 2013 11:25 PM

I haven't received any team names or designs or anything yet! If you guys don't come up with anything, we'll have to use one of my ideas... Here's what I've got after about 10 minutes of brainstorming...

First Practice & Spirit of the Game
Thursday, April 04, 2013 4:20 PM

Our first practice is on Tuesday, April 9th.

  • Where: Meet in the commons.
  • When: Right after school. (We will leave by 2:15!) Practice ends at 4:00pm.
  • What to bring/wear: Water bottle, cleats (if you have them), weather-appropriate athletic clothing. (No jeans, please--just because it's technically possible to play sports in them does not make them "athletic clothing").

Read details and about the Spirit of the Game...
