2014-2015 Barton Ultimate Frisbee
Final Note
Sunday, June 14, 2015 6:50 PM

One final note for the year on Barton Ultimate.  First, here are some photos from the last day.

If your player is interested in playing ultimate this summer, Jamie’s YUP summer camps are always popular.

There’s also usually pickup ultimate for youth and families at Armatage Park (58th & Penn) on Sundays at 3:30.  It looks like many of the players from the SWHS ultimate team (MÜS) are planning to be there regularly, so it’s a good opportunity to meet and play with some of them and get some tips.

I’ve enjoyed helping your players learn more about ultimate this year.  Thanks to Laura and Bill for helping with the coaching.  I hope everyone had fun and continue to play ultimate next year and beyond.

- Kevin

Last Week of Ultimate -- UPDATE
Thursday, June 04, 2015 10:15 AM

A little update on the plan for Sunday.  The coaches of the teams have been talking, and it looks like we’re going to try to run a little mini-tournament for the final week after all.  I’ve heard from a number of people that they won’t be here this weekend, so we’ll just consolidate our X and Y teams into a single Barton team.

The details may change a bit, but here’s a tentative schedule:  It would go from 3 - 5:30 with half-hour long games at ECC.  There are two pools of four, each team plays every other team in their pool once, and every team has one bye:

Pool x                                 Pool y
Barton                                 HMJDS
Southview                           Ramward
Lake Harriet X                     Lake Harriet Y
Valley View X                      Valley View Y

3:00 - Barton v. Lake Harriet X  -  Lake Harriet Y v. Valley View Y  -  HMJDS v. Ramward  -  (teams not mentioned have a bye)
3:30 - Southview v. Lake Harriet X  -  Valley View X v. Barton  -  HMJDS v. Lake Harriet Y
4:00 - Southview v. Valley View X  -  HMJDS v. Valley View Y  -  Ramward v. Lake Harriet Y
4:30 - Barton v. Southview  -  Lake Harriet X v. Valley View X  -  Ramward v. Valley View Y
5:00 - Final between winners of pools

Last Week of Ultimate and Summer Opportunities
Monday, June 01, 2015 8:00 AM

It’s hard to believe that this is the last week of Barton ultimate for the season already!

Yes, we will plan to have practice this week even though it’s kind of a crazy week.  Tuesday is Lake day, so we’ll probably keep it a little light.  Thursday is 8th grade graduation, so none of the 8th graders and a lot of the 7th graders will be missing ultimate to be at the graduation.  Nonetheless, we will plan to have practice for those who can make it.  Finn’s dad (Bill) will be there to run practice since Kevin will be at graduation.

The last games will be on Sunday, June 7.  For now plan to be at ECC again 3:00 (arrive at 2:30) as usual.  Watch your email in case anything changes.

If you're interested in playing ultimate this summer, Jamie’s YUP summer camps are always popular.

There’s also usually pickup ultimate for youth and families at Armatage Park (58th & Penn) on Sundays at 3:30.  In the summer they also usually play on a weekday evening.  It’s fun.

Games the Last Two Weeks
Saturday, May 30, 2015 5:00 PM

There have been a couple of questions about ultimate on Sunday (5/31).  Yes, we’re playing.  It’s scheduled for ECC (same place we’ve been playing).  Please arrive at 2:30 for warm-up with games starting at 3:00.

We’ll also plan on games next week (6/7).  It’s not clear exactly what the format will be yet, but we’ll either play teams as usual or mix it up in some way.

State High School Championships
Thursday, May 28, 2015 10:00 AM

The State High School Ultimate Championships will be held this weekend at the National Sports Center in Blaine.  It's a great opportunity for your players to watch a few games and start thinking about playing ultimate in high school.  South, Southwest, and Washburn all have teams playing.  You can see the schedules here:

Open: http://play.usaultimate.org/events/Minnesota-High-School-Boys-State-Championships-2015/schedule/Boys/High-School-Boys/

Girls: http://play.usaultimate.org/events/Minnesota-High-School-Girls-State-Championships-2015/schedule/Girls/High-School-Girls/

Also, South is having a clinic for middle schoolers and their alumni games this afternoon and evening (7/28) at South High School. Registration for middle schoolers is at 4:30 with the clinic from 5-6.  Alumni games following.  Contact Andrea Breen if you need more information (andreabreen@visi.com).

Practice Cancelled -- Tuesday, 5/26
Tuesday, May 26, 2015 12:15 PM

Practice is cancelled again for today (Tuesday, 5/26).  It’s one thing to play games in the rain like on Sunday, but practicing in the rain isn’t much fun, and the prediction for this afternoon is “heavy rain.”  Ugh!

Looks like Thursday will be better, so we’ll try again then.

And, of course, there will be games on Sunday as usual — currently scheduled at ECC.

Memorial Weekend Ultimate
Wednesday, May 20, 2015 4:00 PM

Yes, there is supposed to be an ultimate game this Sunday (5/24).  Please let me know if you will or won’t be here for it.

Also… mark your calendars for  the weekend of 5/30 & 5/31.  The high school league state championship tournament will be held at the National Sports Center in Blaine.  I highly recommend taking your player up to watch a game or two and see what ultimate is like in high school.  There will be lots of games going on all day both days, so you can probably just go any time and see something — or you can watch the MNYU.org site and see if they post schedules.  South, Southwest, Roosevelt, and Washburn all have ultimate teams (boys and girls), so you might be able to go watch them.  It’s free.

And… TOMORROW… Thursday, 5/20, the Southwest Open team will be playing the South B Open team at South High School at 6:00.

Thursday, 5/14 Practice Cancelled
Thursday, May 14, 2015 12:30 PM

While it’s not so bad that we *couldn’t* practice, the field is pretty wet, so we’d mess it up.  Plus, it’s really not much fun to practice in the drizzle.  See everyone at the game on Sunday.
