Time Frames

  • If you’re planning on having your child use transportation to and from Barton, please fill out a transportation form and return it to Tricia in the office immediately. Forms are available in the office or on the district website under the Transportation tab.
    • All transportation forms received will be mailed to the district transportation office in early June. In early August, your child will receive their bus assignment from the district to your mailing address on file. During the first day of Kindergarten, children will receive bus tags to place on their backpacks to ensure that children are using the correct bus. Our staff will assist children daily with transition to and from their bus.
    • If you have changes or corrections to your child’s transportation, please notify the office immediately. Once the change is received, the office staff will update the district office and provide your child an extended bus pass until the new change is in effect. Please note that most transportation changes can take up to 14 business days during the first two weeks of school and 7-10 business days thereafter.
    • If your child has a bus assignment that they do not use often, after 10 days of no usage, the assignment will become inactive unless other children utilize the same stop. If not, you will need to contact the main office to submit a request for reactivation.
    • If you do not plan to have your child take the bus to or from Barton, you must sign a transportation waiver. You can retrieve the form from the MPS district website under

Bus Passes

  • Children are allowed to take other busses home per their parent or guardian’s permission. However, all requests for bus passes and transportation changes MUST be submitted online. (Paper notes are strongly discouraged). You can submit this by visiting Barton>Parents>Transportation>Bus Pass Form. All requests must be in by noon and their teachers should be CC’d in on the request. Any request submitted after the noon hour may not be validated. Once a request is received, I will reply with a confirmation. If you do not see a reply by noon, please contact the office immediately.
    • Pick Up’s- If your child is not planning on riding the bus home is going to be picked up, an email is mandatory with information on who is picking up your children and it must come from an email that we have on file. We MUST be notified by noon. Any notifications after the noon hour many not be validated.  Any pick-ups before 2:00 p.m. must be checked out in the nurse’s office.

Absences

  • If your child is enrolled in P.M care after-school and they are absent for the day, it is mandatory that you contact your P.M. care and notify them of your child’s absence. The office does not hold the responsibility to contact providers on your behalf. Failure to report absences activates our missing child procedures which is time subtracted from real emergencies. Please report your absences! Failure to report will be reported and can become consequential.

Bussing Zones

  • Our central bussing zones include the neighborhoods of Loring Park, Kenwood, Lake of the Isles and Lake Nokomis. However, if you have a question about where our busses transports to and from, please contact Tricia in the main office. It is helpful to have a direct address or location when requesting information.

Special Transportation Request

  • If your child requires special accommodations, please contact the office for options that may be available per your child’s and/or family circumstances.

Thank you and welcome to Barton!
