Welcome to Room 209

Room 209 is a busy place! It’s filled with curious, energetic and hard working 3rd and 4th graders who are great fun to teach.

There are two special yearlong activities that bring cheers when Thursday and Friday arrive: Stamp Club and Architects. Everyone in our room has a stamp collection, and this is an opportunity for students to delve into different topics sparked by a really cool stamp. Stamp Club meets on Thursdays. Save your postage stamps for us.

This year’s Friday Science topic is Architecture.

This and That

Here are a few notes for this final week.

#1 Tuesday is Lake Day. There has been a huge request for parent volunteers, so if you are now available or are already planning to attend, you can sign up to help with activities at this link:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wcCqAdJdci90NQTfGEaYq6_KWoE5ZhNw24sCtxcKMiE/edit#gid=0.

Send a lunch (regular lunch container is fine),
apply sunscreen at home,
return permission slip,
children should wear good walking and running shoes,
no money.

We will leave Barton around 9:30 to walk to the lake. The festivities will begin with the program at the bandshell honoring the graduation 8th graders.

If you are attending Lake Day and want to take your child home from the lake, please let me know before you leave! Thank you in advance.

#2 I have asked the kids to bring empty backpacks each day, as there are binders, notebooks, etc. that will be sent home - a few each day so it's manageable.

#3 I have also asked the kids to bring something to wear (ie. hat, mustache, glasses) for a group photo on Wednesday.

#4 Look for your child's end of the year letter on Friday, which will be in the backpack.

Thanks.
Penny

Hi All,
Here are a couple of updates:

We will be singing at the All School Morning Meeting next Tuesday. You are invited to join us. From the Bugle -

Please join us in the Commons on Tuesday, May 26th at 7:35 a.m. for an all-school morning meeting at which we will dedicate the new Native Garden in honor of long-time Barton teacher, Felicity MielCrosby.  This garden has been created by her third-fourth graders who were joined and supported by a large community of parents, staff, her family members, and older students throughout the school.  We will celebrate with song, kind words and a slide show depicting Felicity’s love for her students as well as the communal transformation of the garden space in her name.  The Native Garden will be a lasting expression of how essential it is to live the values of nurturing and caring for others as we know Felicity did with a sense of pride and passion.

Two permission slips have come home this week.
