9/11/2015

Dear 209 Families,

This week was a great week in 209!  This week students started their Science specialist rotation.  Students had a great time in Media and are so excited for Science, it sounds like they are off to a great start!

I enjoyed getting to see many of you at the parent information night on Thursday!  If you were not able to make it I sent home the information that we went over today.  Please let me know of any questions you have.

Important Note:  This year 209 is a nut free classroom.  To make sure it is safe for everyone in our classroom I am asking that you do not pack nuts or peanut butter in lunches this year, sun butter is a great alternative.

Reminders:

Stamp Club: Please send your student with their stamp club dues ($3) if you haven’t already.

Next week students will receive math homework on Wednesday and their first list of spelling words on Friday.

Next week expect to see homework on Wednesday and spelling on Friday.  The homework will be due back the following Wednesday, September 23rd and the first spelling test will be on Thursday, September 25th.

Conference schedules were sent out today, please get that back to me asap with 3 times that would work for your family schedule.  I look forward to meeting with everyone to discuss goals for the year!

Curriculum:

Math – This week we focused on our number sense in math as we discussed place value, comparing numbers and rounding numbers.  This was done trough puzzles, games and whole class discussions.  Students have also been practicing the x3 cheer, ask you student to share it with you!

Reading – Students picked out books from our classroom library and we have been working on reading stamina.  This week we continued F & P reading.  Students have had the chance to read to a teacher to gage their reading level and understanding.  This is going to be very helpful to know where they are at and how to best support them this year.  Students have also had the opportunity to respond to read alouds in their reading journal.  This week we also launched our poetry study.

Writing – Students wrote about their minion this week!  Students finished writing and assembling their hopes and dreams, look for them posted in our classroom.

Social Studies (Economics) – This week we did a simulation that helped students learn about scarcity and allocating goods.  Ask them about it!

Please call, email, send a note or drop by with any questions you may have.
