You will need to turn in a signed permission slip, and read and sign the camping rules with your child. Documents are here if you need a copy. camping_trip_permission.pdf  camping_rules_and_agreement.pdf

Please also use this checklist to help your child pack for the trip: camping_trip_-_packing_list.pdf

Swimming at the YMCA, 5/18-5/21

Room 216 will swim at the Blaisdell YMCA on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 5/18-5/21. Your child should bring a swimsuit and towel to school on these days. The cost is $12.00 for the week ($3.00 per session). Please return the permission slip and payment to Felicity!

Field Trip to Gibbs Farm Museum, Monday 5/17

The 3rd and 4th grade classes will visit the Gibbs Museum of Pioneer and Dakota Life, located in St. Paul. We'll leave school at 8:15 and return to school by 12:30. We'll be eating a picnic lunch outdoors, so please have your child bring a bag lunch, labeled with his/her name, that can be thrown away. A permission slip went home last week--you can find a copy here as well, under "Forms and Permissions."

Fort Snelling Field Trip, Tuesday 5/4

This Tuesday, all the 3-4 classes will visit Fort Snelling. We'll leave school at 8:45 a.m. and return by 1:00. Your child will need to bring a bag lunch this day--we'll all eat lunch at the Fort Snelling picnic area. Please sign and send in the permission slip to Felicity by Tuesday--a copy can be found here under "Forms and Permissions." Parent chaperones are welcome!

Roller Skating, Friday 4/23

We're going to the Roller Gardens in St. Louis Park with all the other 3-4 classes. It's a great way to celebrate Spring, and celebrate the end of our state testing (MCAs) for the year! Parent chaperones are welcome too. Please fill out and return the permission slip to Felicity before Friday (find one under "Forms and Permissions" here.)

Overnight Camping Trip This May

Mark’s and Felicity’s classes are planning a camping trip for this Spring: Wednesday through Friday, May 26, 27, 28.

We are going to Wild River State Park in Chisago County, which is about an hour and 15 minutes away. We are going to take a bus to the park, leaving school at about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. On Friday a bus will pick us up at our campsite and we should be back at Barton at about 1:00 p.m.

The children will continue to practice cooperative skills as they plan for their personal stay and their group jobs and games. We will learn camping vocabulary, campfire songs, and read and write camping stories. The students will plan nutritious meals and snacks for the entire group. We will talk about meeting the challenge of sleeping overnight in tents with our friends. We will also do a lot of problem solving in preparation for our trip. While camping, the students will have the opportunity to participate in environmental lessons, ie: fishing, prairie exploration, pond studies and nature crafts.

Going camping is a great finale for our year. The camping trip is FUN for the kids, teachers, and parents! We DO NEED PARENTS, and we would like to know as soon as possible how many of you will be able to participate in all or some of the trip. Many hands make light work, and we are grateful for all the help and time you are willing to give. We will also need tents and camp stoves with fuel.

More information will follow. If you have questions at any time, please feel free to contact Mark at 668-7900 or Felicity at 668-3570.

Homework Project: The Human Body

Students have been given a new project to complete at home, and they will be presenting the projects to their classmates during the week of March 22, just before Spring break. Click on "Assignments" at the right side of the page (main classroom page, sidebar) for all the details.

Valentine Exchange, Friday 2/12

Students are welcome to bring Valentines to school on Friday to exchange with classmates. Participation is optional, and kids can choose whether or not to individually address their cards. Since some kids would like to put names on their Valentines, a class list went home in backpacks last week.

Field Trip to Physics Circus, Friday 1/8

All the grade 3-4 classes will go to Physics Circus this Friday, a fun display of physics tricks and feats performed by professors at the U of M and some local high school science teachers. We'll take the bus to Northrop Auditorium on the U of M campus,  leaving school at 9:15 and returning at 12:00.

Students need to return a signed permission slip to school by Friday (a copy can be found here, under "Forms and Permissions"). Parent chaperones are welcome.

Field Trip to the Bakken Museum, Wednesday 11/4

Our class will visit the Bakken Museum on Wednesday, November 4, to take a guided tour and participate in a Static Electricity workshop. (A detailed description of these activities will be sent home with students.)

We'll leave Barton at 9:00 a.m. and be back to school by 12:50 p.m., in time for Options. Please send a disposable bag lunch to school with your child, since we will need to eat at the museum.

We're asking for $12.00 from each student to cover transportation plus the tour and workshop. Parent chaperones are free--sign up on the permission slip found here. bakkenpermission.pdf

Guest Teacher Katherin Schwandt

Room 216 welcomes a guest teacher from Germany! Katherin Schwandt is visiting our class on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, October 20-22, and Tuesday and Wednesday, October 27-28. At her home school in Berlin, Katherin teaches English to kids ages 8-11. We hope that Katherin will teach us a little German.
