Dear Eighth Grader and Family,
Minneapolis Public Schools would like to invite you to be a Fast Track Scholar this summer! This exciting program provides current 8th grade (going into 9th) students with the opportunity to meet new high school classmates and begin earning high school elective credits. The goal is to prepare students for a smooth transition to high school. In order to participate, students must meet ALC criteria such as not meeting grade level academic standards, English Language Learner, or having inconsistent school attendance which significantly impacts achievement. AVID students also qualify to attend Fast Track Scholars, and teachers/counselors may recommend students.
Fast Track Scholars will have the opportunity to earn high school elective credit for four courses of their choice. Course offerings include linear algebra, literacy, physical education, health, science, guitar, theater, drawing, ceramics, science inquiry, engineering, robotics, work readiness, web design, geography, dance, and more. Students will receive a non-weighted letter grade for successful course completion.
Fast Track Scholars will be located at Edison High School, 700 22nd Ave. N.E., 55418. The hours for Fast Track Scholars will be 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., June 26 through August 3, Mondays through Thursdays. There will be no Fast Track Scholars programming July 3-6 as we will be off for the Holiday. This program is free and includes breakfast, lunch, and Metro Transit Go To cards. We will work with students to determine the safest route from home to Edison High School using Metro Transit.
Please complete the attached Registration and Course Selection Form with your parent/legal guardian. Your school counselor or teachers may also be of assistance in helping you select courses. Return all forms to your school office or to the Fast Track Summer Coordinator, Eryn Warne, at Edison High School, 700 22nd Ave. N.E., 55418. Please contact Eryn with questions regarding Fast Track Summer Programs.
