Dear Families,

It’s fun to be right in the middle of our goal-setting conferences!  I’ve had six already and lots more planned for this week.  If you need to schedule your conference, send me an email or give me a call.  We’ll get you and your child on the calendar.

Last Week

We let the prairie dogs help us think about assertion- an important social skill that helps us stay safe and be ourselves.  We collected number facts about prairie dogs, and used rulers to make actual-sized drawings.  We found all kinds of math when we were learning about prairie dogs!

This week

We are going to need all of our self-control as we explore the amazing-but-unnerving world of bees.  We’ll read fact and fiction about those yellow and black community builders. On Tuesday we will have a guest speaker who will show the gear that bee-keepers use to stay safe and get that delicious honey!  We are hoping to practice the skills we need to conquer our fears and work through our anxieties.

MAP Testing

This year the first and second graders are taking the MAP test.  The dates of the test are

2nd grade- Sept 30, Oct 2

1st gr Oct 7 and 8.  I am happy to answer questions about these tests.

Weekend News

As you enjoy your weekend doings with your children, you can say, “Hey!  You can write about this in your weekend news!” On Monday mornings when it is time to write down something that happened on the weekend, they will be all ready to go.

Author’s Tea and Animal Party October 31 is the day we will have an author’s tea (7:45-8:45) and a celebration of our learning about animals and how they form groups. Your child will be reading an animal fact book that he or she writes at school.  Students are welcome to dress as an animal that day.

Picture Day

We’ll have picture day on October 7.  Look for order info coming home.

Thanks, Kristin
