Literature Circles
Four uppers students - Gabe, Catherine, Rachel, and Maya - have been working with us in our literature circles and will be with us through November 8th.  Each one of them is working with a group of Mark's students assigned to one of the following books:

Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary

Ralph S. Mouse by Beverly Cleary

Jane Gibbs:  Little Bird That Was Caught by Anne E. Neuberger

Matilda by Roald Dahl

 

In the lit circles, students take turns having one of the following roles:

Questioner/Discussion Leader:  Student's job is to write down a few questions about a particular part of the book in their lit circle journal.

Passage Master:  Student's job is to pick a few special sections of the reading for the group to look back on to help notice the most interesting, funny, puzzling, or important sections of the reading.  Passage Master writes page number, paragraph, and why he/she chose it in his/her lit circle journal.

Connector:  Student's job is to find connections between the book and his or herself, and between the book and the wider world, including other reading, and write about them in his or her lit circle journal.

Summarizer:  Student's job is to prepare a 5-6 line summary of the reading explaining the main points.

In addition, each student will do the following role:

Word Wizard:  Student keeps list of difficult vocabulary, including completely unfamiliar words and somewhat uncertain words.  Student also lists descriptive words that make the story more interesting.
