8:00 - 8:30 Morning Meeting

Morning meeting is a key component of the Responsive Classroom and social skills curriculum.  (See separate handout.)  It has several parts:

Greeting (and Attendance): The children sit in a circle and greet each other.  We do this in a variety of ways, but always making good eye contact and saying their name. We won’t be doing much hand-shaking this fall to avoid the spread of any viruses. 

Sharing: This involved sharing or telling about an experience.  The main emphasis on sharing is learning to be a good audience member, one who can ask interesting and pertinent questions or make a comment.  I ask that they share an interesting experience, a nature item, something from home that can be enjoyed by the whole class like a book, CD or cassette.

  • NOTE: I ask that children do not bring toys from home!  Toys will be returned to backpacks and your child may share another day.  Toys at school that aren’t provided in the room tend to become problems at recess and distractions to your child during the day.  Please monitor your child’s backpack to make sure they aren’t bringinf  toys that can be lost or broken.

Activity: After Sharing we play a game and sing some songs.  This always involves some movement to get the “wiggles out.” 

Calendar Math:  Following our activity, we do our Calendar Math and review the day's schedule.
