Be@School Program

Be@School is the new attendance program which is a collaboration of Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, all Hennepin County school districts including Minneapolis Public Schools and 11 community agencies. The main goals of the program are for all children to achieve 95% attendance for the school year and be in class and be on time every day.

The process as developed will be as follows: If a student has 1 or 2 unexcused absences, parents will be contacted by Jennie, our Health Assistant. If a student reaches three unexcused absences, a letter will be sent requesting that you contact the school. The primary people contacting you regarding unexcused absences will be: Jennie Smith, Health Assistant; Trish Clarke, School Social Worker; Faduma Roble, Assistant Educator/Interpreter.

As a part of Be@School, if a student reaches 6 days of unexcused absences, schools are required to submit a referral to Hennepin County at which time parents will be asked to attend a meeting led by Hennepin County Attorney’s Office staff members.

If the unexcused absences continue after that, Education Neglect or Truancy reports will be filed with Hennepin County.  More...
