Let it Shine Project

December 12, 2013

It’s time to let our lights shine!  Over break we would like your child to start the first home project of the year.  We want your child to explore something about light.

First

Think about the key questions:

*What is light?

*How do people around the world celebrate with light?

*How do we let our lights shine?

Next

Plan a project that addresses one of our key questions. Make sure your project is based on your child’s own interests and is something that you would like to explore with your child.

To give you an idea, here are some examples of past projects

*diorama about a hero or heroine *illustrated collection of poems about light

*3 paintings of a teddy bear, in three different kinds of light

*research and a poster about a personal hero ( who brought light to others)

*experiments with rainbows, electricity and mirrors

*report about the moon, with a model*A sculpture that celebrates light

* a book about a celebration of light (holiday) * A model of the sun

Third

Learn and explore!  You may need to go to a library, research on the internet, interview an expert, visit a museum, etc.

Fourth

Show and tell what you have learned.  With your product ( mobile, poster, diorama, painting, model, etc) their must be some writing that explains your work and what you have learned.  The project is to be made by the child, with help from the parent.

Finally

Bring your project to class on January 13.  Students will share their projects in class and with their parents at the Light Fair on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014
