Measles Alert - Karen Ward, RN: Barton School Nurse
Tuesday, April 18, 2017 2:10 PM

There are now several children in Hennepin County with confirmed cases of measles.

Please be advised that if your child is not immunized, he/she is at risk of contracting measles.

Measles is a highly contagious illness that may be prevented by vaccination.

Symptoms include a high fever, cough, runny nose and watery eyes followed by a rash that typically spreads from the head to the rest of the body.

The best way to protect yourself and your children from measles is to make sure everyone has been vaccinated with the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine.

Call your health care provider if anyone in your family:

·         has been exposed to measles and has not had either measles disease or measles vaccine in the past

·         develops cold-like symptoms with a fever and/or rash.  DO NOT go to a health care facility without first calling your clinic.

If your child is diagnosed with measles, leave a message on the Barton attendance line at 612-668-3588.
