This Week
We have trees in mind again this week. We will be weaving a tree and now have everything ready. We get to make paper later in the week. It is such a fun process. Some of our patterned math this week will be to plan our lantern designs. Look for a mosaic pattern on Saturday at the lantern walk.

Lantern Walk
Anyone interested in bringing treats to the lantern walk? How about hot chocolate? A card table or two? If you are interested, let me know. We will gather at the southwest corner of Lyndale Farmstead at around 5:00. We will light the lanterns, sing songs and walk around the bowl. It’s a fun gathering and we hope to see everyone there.

Book Club
This week’s chapters are:
Charlotte’s Web- Ch 5-8
Frindle- Ch 3-5
Henry Huggins- Ch 2
Finish your reading by next Monday to be prepared for the book club lunch

Math Focus for This Theme
Pattern will be our focus for this theme. We will explore pattern through money, fractions, cooking and art. As we look at the way things are made, we will have natural openings for real world math.
An important game to play with your child is the Collect 25. This money game helps students learn the value of money and how to exchange money. If 25 is easy, go for 50 or a dollar.

Stone Soup
On Tuesday, November 23rd we will have a stone soup lunch. Families are welcome to come. Students will be serving the meal. We will also prepare the food as a class before hand. When the time gets closer, we will need veggies. I’ll let you know more next week. Lunch will probably be from 11:30 to 12:30. We even get dressed in our waiter outfits. It is a fun meal to attend so mark your calendar and join us.

Water Watch
The United States Geologic Survey (USGS) estimates there to be 326,000,000 cubic miles of water on the planet. A cubic mile can hold a little more than 1.1 X 1012 gallons.

The USGS also estimates that 96.5% of that water is in the planet’s oceans.
