October 14, 2012 Weekly Update

Dear Families,

I’m going to try to provide a short update for a short (two day) student week! First, I want to say that I’ve enjoyed meeting with many families over the last two weeks at the Goal Setting Conferences.  I’m looking forward to continuing those Tuesday evening and all day Wednesday.  I value our ongoing conversations and reflect on them often as I plan and prepare for students.

Monday is another exciting day at Barton, picture day!  Room 108 is scheduled to be in the commons and “lookin’ good” at 8:50 AM.   Not to fear, lots of other important work will be squeezed into our short week.

We’ll continue a new class read aloud, “The Knight at Dawn” (book #2 from the Magic Tree House series).  We had a good discussion last week about the series and began reading and “mapping” out the story.  We’re paying special attention to characters, changes in setting, main events, and problems in the story.

Our morning meetings and writing times will focus on “Weekend Highlights.”  We’ll also spend time in our “Handwriting Without Tears” journals and continue our science "Organisms" observations.

Please note that I’ll be sending this week’s “Daily Math Packet” home on Monday as a homework assignment.  Completed packets will be due on Monday, October 22nd.  I’ll also be sending along last week’s reflection card.  Please review, sign and return to school with your child on Tuesday.

     Have a great week!

 Linda
