Pick-up and Drop-Off
Drop-off

Parents/guardians who pick up their children are encouraged to wait outside for their children until the school day ends. We believe this can be an opportunity to empower your children to more independently transition at the end of the day and still meet you to walk home or to their bikes or car.

The mix of school buses, city buses, cars, bicycles, and child and adult walkers is potentially an unsafe combination for us if we don’t have adults modeling safe decisions at all times. Please observe the following:

  • Children dropped off on the opposite side of the street to school should always be walked to the closest intersection to get onto the school grounds. No one, even with an adult, should cross Bryant, 43rd Street, or Colfax between buses and cars. Cross streets at intersections only.
  • School drop-offs and pick-ups should take place only on 43rd St. and Colfax Ave. No school-side drop-offs or pick-ups should occur on Bryant because the traffic both ways is too intense. School side on 43rd St. is best.
  • Parents should not pull into the staff parking lot in the morning. The pulling in, backing up, and then subsequent turning on to Bryant exacerbates an already unsafe situation for our students and families walking to school.
  • Rather than drive, put your child on the bus in the morning. It is safer and results in fewer cars driving to school.

Unfortunately, there have been accidents in past years involving our students. Please take time to commit the safety expectations above to your habits for morning drop‐off and afternoon dismissal. This will help us keep all children’s safety an important community value.
