Hello Parents -

In our small group literature circles we are coming to the end of our presidential biographies.Thank you Sheila for volunteering to read with us! Our next step is to write a report about the life of our president.
Our current read aloud book is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

During writers workshop the students have been working on typing their personal narratives. We have been stretching them in terms of punctuation, paragraphs, and spelling. Several of the students have printed their first draft - we will continue to edit and revise these stories!

We began a new science unit about Earth Materials. We started by observing and measuring "mock rocks." Then we took apart the mock rocks to see what ingredients we could identify. The students identified shells, sand, gravel, and some colored stones. The students added the powder ingredients into a vial of water and recorded observations. Then, each group poured water into petri dishes - we are currently waiting for the water to evaporate so we can identify more ingredients from our mock rocks. Hopefully the water will have evaporated by Monday! We started our "rock museum" today - students are more than welcome to bring their own rocks to add to the museum!

Both 3rd and 4th graders started a new unit in math. 3rd graders are working on numbers to 100,000. The 4th grade unit is a continuation of multiplication and division strategies.

We are still looking for several more popcorn volunteers for next week Friday (and paper bags)! Please consider volunteering.

Hope you had a great weekend,Hannah and Rebecca
