Overnight trip to Duluth

Click here to see a few of the photo's from our  trip to Duluth.

Observational Drawings

The students in Room 209 have been learning observational drawing techniques from Kate, our artist in residence. They have learned gesture or scribble drawing, which is used as a warm up, and contour drawing which is slow and meant to capture outside lines. Kate also taught the value scale (shades of gray) and color mixing.

We practiced in the classroom, then took our new skills on the road to the Como Park Conservatory.  What fun! When we are out and about on the North Shore in May, there will be many opportunities to capture our observations through sketching and we will be ready. Thank you, Kate!  To see the photos, click here.

Barton Astronomical Society

The Barton Astronomical Society met to present research projects on a wide range of topics. While the experts researched topics of his/her choosing, they demonstrated nonfiction reading skills, careful note taking, and the ability to identify the Big Idea and supporting details. Presentations were built around informative posters. Families joined us for a night of  sharing and celebration. See photos of the preparation of the posters and from the "Big Night".

Earth Balloon

The Earth Balloon came to visit Barton on Friday, Feb. 4.  Room 209 had a chance to explore the Earth and learn some fun facts.  See the pictures...
