Ten-Hour Project

Spend ten hours learning about something in which you have always been interested. Either learn something new or explore more deeply something you know a little about already. Using research and hands-on experience, you will write a paper, create a visual presentation and share with the class. Rough draft is due March 5, 2012. Presentations will take place, 4 per day, March 19 through 29.

  1. Brainstorm a list of topics about which you have always wanted to learn. Choose one that is most interesting.
  2. Gather information and learn about your topic: read books, magazines, newspapers, online articles, etc. Interview someone with first-hand knowledge of your subject. Participate in activities involving your subject. etc. Take notes as you go along!
  3. Write a 2-3 page paper as follows:

    • Title: Centered at top of page like:

      • Topic Goes Here
      • by
      • Your Name Here
    • Introduction / beginning: Introduce your topic and why you chose it - what inspired you.
    • Body / middle: Describe what you learned about the topic.
    • Conclusion / ending: Describe what you enjoyed most about the project.
  4. Create a visual representation of what you learned: poster, DVD, PowerPoint, sculpture, etc.
  5. Prepare a 10-minute presentation for the class.
