Ahoy, Families,

Last week was short but power-packed.  We started our exploration of the world of Pirates.  ARRRGH!  On Tuesday, Nettie and Emily taught about treasure maps; both teachers reported a fun day and a well-behaved class.  That makes me so happy!

The primary team had a rare chance to attend a conference together.  It was about determining and improving our cultural competence.  Thanks to the class for practicing CARES skills while I was away, and thanks to Patrick for the opportunity.

Happily Ever After Party!

Barton is having Costume Day on October 31!  That works great for Dawn's and Kristin's classes, because we are having our HAPPILY EVER AFTER party to celebrate the end of our first unit of study, Once Upon a Time.

Please send your children to school dressed as a Fairy Tale character.  Feel free to interpret “Fairy Tale Character” any way you want, but please leave out gore, fake blood, and

any kind of weapons.  The Happily Ever After Party will be from 12:30-1:30. We need-

*stringy licorice

*candy corn

Author’s Tea

Each student will read an original fairy tale!  We’ll have tea and enjoy looking at student work from our first unit.  If someone from your family can’t come, let me know- Thursday, Nov.1, 7:45-8:45 AM.

Lantern walk

Nov. 10, 4:45-5:45 we’ll have the 12th annual 102-104 lantern walk at the “bowl” on 40th and Dupont.  We’ll run around in the growing dark, share some treats, and then parade around with our beautiful lanterns.  It’s a lovely way to welcome the new season.

We Need-

Cardboard paper towel rolls (for math)   Thanks!  Kristin
