Dear Families,
Happy New Year!  It seems strange to return to school the day after a holiday, but we are going to make it work together.  I have fun lessons planned, and I know that our kids are going to be happy to see their old friends at school.
We won’t have spelling this week, since it is so short.  For homework, there will be time to focus on the project, which is due on January 14.  I have project plans from almost everybody- If you haven’t sent yours yet, let me know how I can help.  I am attaching the project specs to the email version of this newsletter, in case you lost yours in the holiday bustle.

Transportation

Our focus in class for the next couple weeks will be planes, trains, trucks and cars- how do the things we need get from place to place?  How do people get to work?  We will do some reading, writing, graphing and thinking about how transportation affects the world or work.

The Hula-Hoop Factory

It seems like so long ago that we lined up in the main hall and created 52 hula hoops assembly-line style.  What a feat!  The kids worked hard and the parents worked hard too.   Thanks for the opportunity to let kids find out for themselves that if they do their one little part, amazing things can be achieved.  It was really cool to see all of the kids hooping at once in the commons, and to have our hula-hoop show in the class room.  Every single students was able to make the hoop spin.  Thanks to Patrick for signing the paychecks and giving each child some personal words of encouragement.
Thanks for all of your support and the holiday treats.  We had a lovely time at our house, and I hope you all did too.  Kristin
