*Please call the office (612.668.3580) if taxi services are needed to attend Exhibition or Graduation.

Our hope for each year’s graduation ceremony is that we are able to find the right balance between celebrating our students’ experience at Barton and recognizing that their high school and college graduations are the ones that matter the most. Barton’s graduation is scheduled for Thursday, June 5th at 2:30 pm in the Barton Commons. The program and reception will wrap up by 4:00 or 4:30. The party for graduates at the Roller Gardens will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

We enjoy having students dress up for our ceremony without going overboard. Simple is recommended. We will be doing some final rehearsing for the ceremony Wednesday after school and Thursday after Lake Day’s picnic lunch so please do NOT pull your student out of school early to primp, manicure or pick up the rented Hummer stretch limo. We know it is inconvenient, but it will be easiest if students bring graduation outfits with them in the morning—they can hang them in their newly-emptied lockers or in classrooms—or if parents bring outfits with them to school at 1:50 and then find seats while the students change and line up. Graduates need to be ready and lining up in the hallway by 2:20 so we are ready to start at 2:30 promptly.

Although we wish we could invite everyone in our Barton Community, we barely have the space to accommodate family members of graduates and ask that seventh grade peers head home directly after school Thursday.

We will send a hard copy of this home on Thursday as a planner signature form; please contact your student's homeroom teacher with any questions,

MCA Schedule and End of Year Planning
Monday, April 14, 2014 3:45 PM

Many students wanted to have their own copy of this schedule (note that the times are also on the Barton Calendar), so here is a document with the testing times and dates for the next 3 weeks.

We will be sending out information on the last week events ASAP, so keep your eyes open for an email soon about graduation, Uppers Exhibition, Lake Day, Valley Fair, and more.

We will definitely need some parents to help with graduation planning, also! If you have any inclination or desire to help with the planning or execution of our 8th grade graduation ceremonies, please email Allison (! We will have tasks to fit any level of participation--ie: an hour of your time decorating the gym or setting up for a simple reception, your creative energies designing invitations or programs, typing names into a template for the program, a willingness to make a few phone calls from home to find chaperones for the 8th grade party, or even helping manage a small group of 7th graders who will be working the reception. Thanks in advance for any offers to help and thanks for sharing your children with us!

Uppers Exhibition, Jan. 21
Wednesday, January 8, 2014 10:25 PM

Uppers Exhibition of portfolios is an opportunity for parents to view and discuss the work their student has completed during the semester. Students are asked to share their learning portfolios highlighting progress they have made in meeting course expectations. Grades as well as teacher and student reflections on the learning process are included in students’ portfolios. This is an essential part of our Barton Open’s philosophy, and we ask that ALL parents and guardians come to view their student’s learning. If you are unable to attend on this date, please schedule an alternative viewing time with your student before or after school. Class performances for students in Dance as Art & Culture and Spanish will occupy the first hour in the commons, but classrooms are open for the entire two hours, and you are welcome to come and go as you please between the commons and your student’s homeroom.
