"We Are Made for Now" LAG & MPS
Friday, January 29, 2021 1:40 PM

During the Fall 2020 Staff PS MPLS Dance Teachers came together to brainstorm more solutions and innovative authentic ways dance can happen through Distance Learning that still align with the standards amid a global pandemic and racial disparities in our community. Our connection to each other we have through the love we have for dance, illuminating the moments of joy we still have, our gratefulness for life and reverence for those who are no longer with us rings loud in our hearts through this work. No matter how hard it seems, we must harness the opportunity in each moment and show up in our truth, show up in our brilliance, show up in our struggle, and with our joy. We were made to express these moments. We were made to move. We are made for NOW.

This project is a culmination of online classes, park meetings, and free-spirited choreography from our youth to share their joy and love for movement. Inspired by the message in the song "Made For Now", courageously performed by the young hearts who will one day take our places. The resilience these young people shared with us as Arts Educators despite the hardships of learning dance at home shines through this work. Thank you to everyone responsible for encouraging these youth. In a regular environment, we would never think to see our sister schools, watch performances or collaborate without taking a bus somewhere. We have been craving human connection. This project provided that much-needed medicine and then some. Here's to many more collaborative projects that bridge gaps in equity, access, efficacy, and FUN experiences.
