10/2/2015

Dear 209 Families,

This week I have enjoyed conferencing with many of you and your students.  Thank you for making the time to support your student and their learning.  I’m excited to see all the great steps students will take this year to achieve their goals.

Reminders:

With the weather change our classroom can be a little on the colder side.  Please send your student with a sweatshirt to wear in the classroom, as well as a jacket as the weather gets cooler.

Please send money for Handwriting Without Tears & Time For Kids subscriptions if you haven’t already - $14 total.

Homework:

Wednesday Math – Wednesday mornings I will have some ‘homework help’ time in the classroom to support any students not sure about certain problems.

Spelling – Today students brought home their next spelling sort – test will be Thursday.

Reading – Students should be using the yellow October calendar to track their reading for the month.  30 minutes for 3rd graders and 40 minutes for 4th graders.

Math Facts – Students keep practicing the basic math facts for our Tuesday Timings!

Curriculum:

Math – As we continue with number sense in math we are also working on interpreting data.  Students had great opportunities to practice interpreting data.    We also explored different ways to prepare for Tuesday timings!

Reading – Students picked out books from our classroom library and we have been working on reading stamina and doing activities while reading (summarizing, identifying characters & setting).  We have also been reading “Monkey See, Money Zoo” as a class and doing interactive reading activities as a class.

Word Work (Spelling) – Students worked with their spelling words daily in class doing different activities to engage in their spelling words.

Writing –Students are working on typing a final draft of their minion paper/project!

Time For Kids – This week students got their first time for kids!  Ask your student about the most interesting thing they learned from their reading.

Wednesday Wonderings – Students had their first research time for a question they are wondering about.  After coming to conclusions students then will have the opportunity to share their findings with the class.

Please call, email, send a note or drop by with any questions you may have.
