Parent Information Night: It was great to meet so many of you at Parent Information Night. I sent home the handouts with children who were not able to make it. Look for them in your child’s homework folder.

Wednesdays: Wednesday is the night I regularly send home homework. This Wednesday, 9-16,  the first set of homework will come home. It will be due the following Wednesday, 9-23

Time for Kids and National Geographic: These two publications are both highly informative and engaging for children. Time for Kids is a weekly publication. It is our focus on Tuesday mornings. National Geographic is published monthly and has 4 stories each month. This is our Thursday morning focus. The subscription cost is $5.00 for each magazine. If you could send $10.00 (scholarships are welcome) to cover the cost it would be greatly appreciated. Cash or checks made to the Barton Foundation.

Time Test Tuesday: We have had two Tuesdays in which to tackle our facts fast. The time is 8 minutes for 100 facts. Each child is working at his or her individual level. A score of 95 or more is needed to pass. Ask your child where he or she is and help them “study” their facts with flashcards, web sites or just plan drilling in the car or while helping with dinner preparation!

Word Wall: Our word wall is underway. We will add words as needed and we will also add on a monthly basis. We will do a variety of activities revolving around our word wall. We had a mini lesson on our and are. Let’s promote the correction usage in their writing and speaking.

Essential Vocabulary Study: We are working on our first essential vocabulary packet. Each child is working at his or her level on “essential” school words.
