Dear Families,
It was a big Oscar Night for me and it got me to think about the play coming up.  Soon we will start rehearsing for our production of The Quiltmaker’s Gift, which will be presented as a double feature with Dawn’s class play, My Father’s Dragon.  The plays will be on Wednesday, March 27, from 7:45-8:45 in the commons and will be followed by a reception and art show in room 102.
If your family won’t be in town for the play let me know, so I can make casting adjustments.

This Week

In math we are still sewing, and getting ready to sew our “4-patch” quilt block.  We did some measuring today and found out how much fabric disappears into the seam allowance.  We are finding that shapes can fit together in certain ways.  We also started some math choices that will be made first thing in the morning.  This week kids will chose chess, cranes, extreme dot-to-dots or set.  Next week we will add a few.

Painting Like…

Last week we pretended to be in the Sistine Chapel, painting like Michelangelo.  We painted with bold strokes like Van Gogh and with little dots like Suerat.  This week we’ll be cubists like Picasso, Impressionists like Monet, and Surrealists like Dali!  Adam is doing lots of teaching this week and has big, fun, engaging and important plans.  Wish him well when you see him!

Since we are putting on a play about quilts, and studying quilts in math, we would just love to see your quilts.  Kids can share pieced or appliqued quilts any day for the next few weeks.

Days off are coming up!

*No school March 1- teacher work day
*No school March 29-April 7- Spring Break!

Watch for Social Sign-Ups

Barton is trying a new kind of fundraiser this year.  Starting this week, you will find some “social sign-ups” on the Barton Website.  By participating in these, you can support all kinds of learning at Barton, from options, to band and strings, to arts programs.

We need:
*Hand sanitizer

Thanks for all you do!   Kristin
