3/16/2015 Newsletter and Homework
Monday, March 16, 2015 10:15 AM

Dear Families,

It’s been an exciting time in 102!  We have moved from “reading through” the play to “acting” the play, and what a difference it makes!  It’s so fun to be artists working together to make our production the best it can be!

We have a good start painting our sets, and are about to start collecting our costumes and props.  We would love to borrow lots of quilts as part of our set- look for the homework idea about “sharing a quilt.”

The plays (My Father’s Dragon by 104 and The Quiltmaker’s Gift by 102) will be next Tuesday, March 24, from 7:45-8:45 in the commons.  You are invited to our art show and reception in 102 right after.

Too Darn Hot!

Our only setback last week was the oppressive heat in 102.  Rick got the pipefitters out, and they were able to stop the heat from pouring out of our radiators.  Still, the room was around 87 degrees.  Please make sure your child has a water bottle, and dresses in layers.  Seriously- I recommend tank tops with a sweater, shorts with sweatpants over, or leggings under, so that layers can be removed for the heat of the day inside, and replaced for a chilly recess outside.  The heat was appropriate for our study of South America, but we were still dressed for Minnesota!

This Week

We will “travel” to Australia, where we will look at Aboriginal art and learn about the unique culture there.

Spirit Week

This is a non- specific heads-up!  The last week before spring break (March 23-26) will be a “spirit week,” which means that everyone in the school will be asked to dress a certain way for the day.  You know, for school spirit.  I just don’t know what each day is, so watch your email and the Barton website, and all will be revealed.  Pretty sure there will be a pajama day though. Big fun!

Important Dates

March 20 Plant Sale Kickoff

March 24- Play and Artshow, 7:45

March 23-26 Spirit Week

March 27-April 6 Spring Break

April 9 Roller Gardens - 5:30-8:00

April 16 Student Author Night 6:00

May 14-15 Camping Trip

We Need:

Some treats for our “reception” on March 24.  It would be wonderful if some people could bring food that represents their family culture- a mini “ethnic festival.”  Let me know if you can bring something, and carefully label ingredients.

Thanks!  Kristin
