Dear Families,

Our unit of study, World of Beauty, comes to a close this week, with our culminating event on Tuesday, and some student reflection and celebration on Wednesday and Thursday.  It has been a whirlwind tour of the globe (complete with globe-making!) and as always, way too short.  We had flu, strep, and family vacations to break us apart, but are coming together beautifully with the play that you will all see on Tuesday morning.

The Quiltmaker’s Gift by 102

We are learning so much from this project.  As we read the script over and over, I have seen some of my hesitant readers absolutely bloom as a result of the structured, supportive experience that choral reading can provide.  I have seen students support and encourage one another to make our play better.  The process of working through The Quiltmaker’s Gift has helped us see the value of practice, and the gift that working as a team can be.  I can’t wait for you to see our show!

It’s Spirit Week!

I hope everyone got the list I sent on Friday- here it is again, with more detail.

Monday- Pajama Day!  Dress in your favorite, school appropriate pajamas.

Tuesday – Twin Day!  Dress like a friend, or like a group of friends.  OR- wear MN Twins gear!

Wednesday- Get up and dance day!  We will be having dance breaks all day long, including a big one in the commons.  Wear the best dance clothes for you.  I’m shopping for a tutu.

Thursday- Wacky Hair Day. Go crazy!

Thank You

To all of the volunteers who sent quilts, props, costumes, and helped with projects, washed our towels, corrected spelling tests, displayed the art, put continents on the globes, sent newspaper, and read with students, thank you.  Our community of learners is surrounded and nurtured by your constant care and support.

Thanks especially to Brent, who brings a keen eye for what’s needed to his work in 102, and is not afraid to get his hands dirty! We are all enjoying Brent’s presence, and very much appreciate the accelerated learning that is happening with a second teacher in the room.  Only wish it would last longer.

We Need:

*Kleenex!  We’re out!  If you have extra, please send a box or two.

*Wide, strong, clear packaging tape.

*Some kitchen wipes- my favorite brand is Kirkland from Costco.  Just the thing for spring break (woot woot!) cleaning!

*Treats for our “reception” after the play on Tuesday.  Label the ingredients for our kids with allergies.

Plant Sale

Our plant sale materials went home on Friday.  This is a wonderful way for our larger community to gather in support of Barton.  I hope that all students can know the joy of helping their school. Sell green plants!      Thanks!  Kristin
