Dear Families,

Last week we learned all about our brains and how they work.  We made brain hats, practiced special Brain Gym activities, practiced our yoga and aerobics patterns.  On Friday, we used our imaginations and pretended we were at the beach.  It was great!  (I think we brought summer weather, too!)

Bones and Muscles

This week we’ll learn about our bones and muscles and how to take care of them. Don’t be surprised if you kids ask for cheese, kale or yogurt as they try to boost their calcium intakes!

You should have some PALA materials in your BEE books. PALA stands for President’s Active Lifestyle Award.  Have fun working out!

Used Book Fair

We could use more books for the used book fair. The book fair opens Wednesday, so send your kids with a couple bucks if you want them to shop for new books.  This year’s book fair is being run by the 3-4 team, who will be using the revenue to do some special projects.

Camp News

Dawn has applied for her “Notary Stamp” but it hasn’t arrived yet.  We’ll let you know when she is ready to give the stamp of approval on your background check applications.  My understanding is that if you had one for another child’s overnight trip at Barton, or as an MPS employee, you don’t need a new one.

Thanks to everyone who has already filled out the camping packet.  If you have questions or concerns, I would love to meet with you.  Keep them coming in!

We need-

*Liter and 2 liter plastic bottles (like from soda)

*pickle buckets” from local restaurants

*3 ½ -4 ½ foot branches, suitable to be made into walking sticks at camp.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

Every day we enjoy a fresh snack from the nutrition center.  It has been great to see students try new foods, learn more about where food comes from, and graph data. The snacks were provided by the generosity of 102 families.  It’s time to pay our final bill, which is $144.00.  We have 2 families who have committed to pay this amount if needed.  If you would like to contribute, please send a check and write FFVP in the memo spot.

Uli is Here!

On Tuesday mornings we are working with Uli Koester from Midwest Food Connection.  He is helping us get plants ready for the Barton Spirit Garden.  Last week we planted cucumber seeds and started garden journals.  This week we’ll be visiting the garden

Thanks for your help.  Kristin
