About Mark
Mark Downing

I have been a life-long resident of Minneapolis. I currently live within walking distance of Barton with my wife Cara and daughters Olivia and Maddy who also attended Barton.

I graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from St. Johns University in Collegeville, Minnesota and a masters degree in Experiential Education from Minnesota State University in Mankato.

I have been teaching at Barton since the fall of 1984. I taught Kindergarten one year, 1st and 2nd grade for most of my career, but had 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 2nd, 3rd grade combinations along the way. This year will be my fifth year with a 3rd, 4th grade combination.

Outside of school I love to golf, play hockey, bike, travel, do projects around the house, and listen to music. This summer we had lots of fun going to concerts at the Minnesota Zoo.

Barton is such a supportive, progressive-thinking learning community. I feel blessed and honored to be part of it as a teacher and parent. I am excited about getting to know each child and family; working together to help the students of room 214 achieve their Hopes and Dreams.
