MSP Wellness Policy
Last Spring our MPS district sent home a brochure introducing its new Wellness Policy. This policy comes out of the federal mandate, the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 that requires all districts to implement a policy aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of students and staff.  For more information on the policy click here.

 Primary Wellness Policy objectives are to:

(1) Provide more nutritious food options at school in the lunchroom, classroom, for fundraising efforts; and to limit low nutrition food options school-wide; also to see that each student starts the day with a healthy breakfast, hence our in school breakfast option;

(2) Implement improved nutrition education into the curriculum;

(3) Increase opportunities for physical activity for all students during and after the school day;

(4) Provide staff with greater wellness programs and resources in order to support classroom curriculum and, as role models for students, to optimize their own health;

(5) Put in place a Wellness Coordinator at each school to support implementation of the policy.

Barton’s Wellness Coordinators, Pete Sampson (Barton’s Physical Education teacher) and Stasia Johnson Steinhagen (Barton parent) invite you to join us as we implement these policies. Look to Be Well Barton for healthy tips and  updates on the implementation of our Wellness Policy. To get involved or offer suggestions, contact
