A student's rendition of Meri

Meri Gauthier teaches visual art classes. At Barton, students study visual art technique and skills in order to increase their ability to communicate their thoughts and feelings. Our shared art studio is a place where imaginations grow and students enjoy each other's creativity.

Tile work underway for Spirit Garden
Art students are busy designing garden-themed tiles, smashing ceramics (with safety googles -- thanks, Sue B.!), and working together to create hundreds of squares that will decorate the Spirit Garden wall. Click above for photos.
We'll begin the process of adhering them to the wall when the temps warm up in May (we hope!), led by Meri and parent/tile artist Kirsten Walstead, but we'll need plenty of volunteers as well. Send an email to if you'd like to help.
SuperArtists Explore Bullying

Fifth- and 6th-grade students used cartooning to creatively -- and gently -- examine the idea of power. Students sought out connections between their artwork and bullying interactions.

Primary Students Incorporate Barton in Artwork

Click above to see how students in Jane's class expressed their hopes and dreams artistically, and how Dawn's class included their classroom rules in their artwork.
