Kristin’s Class Newsletter
May 31, 2011 Clara Barton Open School 612-695-5410

Dear Families,
It hardly seems possible that our last day is a week from Wednesday. Wow. This week students will share their projects with the class on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, June 2, parents are invited to see all of the projects at our Eyes to the Sky Fair. We’ll also be doing some reflection and assessment, and work on our portfolios.

Our Alien Week
Didn’t Mai do a wonderful job? The party was a riot- we ate alien fingers, alien slime and crispy scales from …aliens. All the little aliens were charming and well-behaved, as usual. (really!)

Northside Needs
I’ve been in touch with some former students and their parents who live on the northside. I brought our camp leftovers and other food shelf stuff to a collection point, but there is huge need for more. Just imagine having absolutely nothing and living in the car beside your smashed up house! Send cleaning supplies, toiletries, food, and money. Even clothes- especially shoes. Help if you can.

So far, Kristin’s class has been spared, but Dawn’s class has had five cases of headlice since our camping week. So- keep checking, and let me know if you have the bug buddies. Knowledge is power!

Thanks to Kristi Smith-Knutson and her happy crew of portfolio helpers, our portfolios of student work will be ready to share. We had a big work day at Kristi’s house on Saturday, and it couldn’t have been more pleasant. I can’t thank everyone enough- I’ll publish the full list next week.

What’s Lake Day?
An all day all-school-outdoor party at Lake Harriet. We start with a program celebrating 8th graders at the bandshell, then picnic, then play at lots of fun stations. Want to volunteer? See Sue B in room 12.
