Kristin’s Class Newsletter
April 23, 2012 Clara Barton Open School 612-695-5410

Dear Families,
Last week we enjoyed learning about the first people of Minnesota. This week we’ll learn about the growth of our state. It would be a good time to share your family’s Minnesota history with your kids. How did your family come to settle in the area? Where did they live before? Why did they choose Minnesota?

The Brochure Project
You will find directions and supplies for our brochure project in your BEE book. The main idea is to think of a place in the city that is special to your family, and to make a brochure about it. We will try to see lots of our special places on our City Tour in late May.

Thanks to all of you who have sent your camp forms. It really helps us with our planning. If you haven’t sent yours back, let me know what questions you have.

Sewing Volunteer Needed
We need someone to sew 2 hems on each of 54 napkins for camp. That’s 108 little seams. Anyone interested? Let me know.

Pioneer Day
We want to celebrate Earth Day and experience a bit of what our ancestors did by having a pioneer day on Friday. This is a change from our previously announced date. We’ll try to get along with no electricity or paper. We’ll have a spelling bee, chant our math, and recite some verses. Girls, this is a great day to wear a skirt or a sunbonnet!

“Day Camps”
We continue to meet in small groups Tuesday-Friday to meet individual learning targets in a fun “campy” environment. We are packing a lot of learning into that half hour. Thanks to Jenni Adleman, who was in charge of Bingo Camp last week and will head Yahtzee camp next week. Thanks to Hetal Delal who will be joining us next week for Farkle Camp.

We need-
20 more pickle buckets and long sticks for hiking.

Thanks! Kristin
