Dear Families,
Pioneer Day was a real experience! We had an old fashioned spelling bee (congrats to Grae), wrote with quill pens, and recited the pledge. We had a visit from Leo’s dad, who showed us Indian artifacts and how axe and arrowheads were made. We ate our “dinners,” had chore time, and recited our lessons. It was fun for one day, but I’m sure glad we live in a time with plenty of rich literature, pencils, and a co-educational setting. The boys’ side was definitely more, um, active, especially after “dinner.” No one had to go the woodshed, though, thank goodness.

This week-
We will start to build our model city and think about what a city needs. We could use your shoe boxes- we need a few more. We’ll start our study with a beautiful story called Roxaboxen.

Math
Second graders will continue to explore multiplication through a study of floors and rooms. 1st graders will be working with number patterns as well, counting by 2s 5s and 10s. We will continue to work in “camps” on math skills for catch-up and enrichment.

Parents’ book club
The book is Nurture Shock! We will meet on May 22, Tuesday, from 5:30-7:00. The strings concert is the same night, so we’ll excuse orchestra families a little early. Dawn and I will be part of the discussion and child care will be provided by student teacher Kate and friends. I hope you can come- anyone is welcome. We’ll have the other books available so parents can vote on the next title on the 22nd.

We need- old towels, snacks, and help from 12:15-12:45 Tuesdays-Fridays.
Thanks! Kristin
