Election of representatives and alternates for District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC)

The Minneapolis Public Schools  Area C  Parent Council is a parent group that aims to do the following:

  • Collect the voice of our parents
  • Build community amongst our parents
  • Create a channel of communication between Area C parents, the District Parent Advisory Council and District Leadership

Area C is proud of its history of strong parent involvement.  We aim to have our six (6) DPAC representatives and our six (6) alternates present a unified voice from Area C with input from all of our school communities.

We will elect 5 representatives on 10/27.  Three (3) will be elected to a 2 year term and two (2) will be elected to serve for 1 year, filling the terms of 2 elected in 2010.  Chris Rigert (Washburn parent), DPAC co-chair will fulfill the 2nd year of her term.  We will also elect 6 alternates to 1 year terms.

The elections are open to all  interested parents.  We value diverse types of schools and student populations in our community.  The newly elected group will work with Chris to select a co-chair to serve with her this year and be the lead next year.

The purpose of the DPAC is to build communications and partnership between parents and administration around District policy issues related to student achievement.  DPAC has two roles:  first, to communicate with the Superintendent and senior staff on District policy issues or ideas brought before DPAC; second, to identify, raise and bring to the attention of the Superintendent, senior staff, and the Board, items of concern to parents from the school level.

DPAC meets on the 2nd Monday of the month in the assembly room at 807 NE Broadway from 6-8pm.  Childcare is available.
