October Book Report- Historical Novel (due Nov. 2)

While the truth may be stranger than fiction, we hope to prove that fiction is sometimes the best way to tell the truth!

  1. Pick a real person who was born long ago, or a historical event.
  2. Learn about that person by READING a BOOK.
  3. Write a story about that person, or event.  Include made-up characters.  For example, a character in a story about Abraham Lincoln might feature a made-up character that worked in the kitchen of the White House or worked at the local hat shop where Abe bought those famous "stove top" hats!
  4. Use facts about life during the period in history when the story happened.  For example, tell how people traveled or how they dressed.
  5. Have fun and be creative!  Remember it is a story that is part true and part your imagination!!
Schedule of Book Reports

A Book Report is due each month with the exception of Dec. and May.  More detailed directions for book reports will be given at the beginning of each month. Click on the title above for a list of book reports for the year and a brief synopsis of each one.

This week, I plan to start Words Their Way (new spelling program). The
first week will be a "practice week" with us getting used to the
ARE READING AT SCHOOL-AT ALL TIMES! They will need it as part of the
spelling program. It can be a book they are reading at home, and it
can go back and forth daily. We will go to the media on Monday if they
need to pick something out!
