On Saturday, April 13 and 20, several dedicated 5th and 6th graders participated in the Minneapolis Public Schools Math Masters competitions. There were about 70 competitors in the 6th grade competition and more than 300 in the 5th grade. Tough odds!

The 6th graders were Emma Lipets, Ahmed Yusuf, Henry Holcomb, Shane Stodolka, Sara Thimmesch, Ahmed Abdullah, Zakaria Hassan, and Alex Knowlen. Henry and Sara came away with prizes in the speed round getting 100 percent.

The 5th graders were Zev Breen, Lukas Ley, Phoebe Olson, Finn McKinney, Penelope Specker, Grace Prince, Margaret Mullin, Sarah Shepard, Chip Specker, Emmet Sutton, Aidan Sutton, Ted Lindholm, Sophia Benz-Narveson, Mimi Kol- Balfour, Kawsar Mohamed, and Ibrahim Yusuf. Ted brought home a 100 percent prize in the speed round.

There were many students who practiced for about two months twice a week. They worked very hard to improve their math skills and I’m proud of all the participants!! If you see them around give them a big thumbs up!!

Thanks to my co-coach, Colin Schilds and the parents who were able to help out.
