Celebrate the Quilted Mosaic Unveiling
Wednesday, April 17, 2013 2:15 PM

Allison's dance classes have workedon the Quilted Mosaic community art project over the past several years.  The unveling of the anti-grafitti mosaic will be on Saturday, April 27, 2013

See the article in the Southwest Minneapolis Patch about the project that Allison's dance classes have worked on over the last several years. There are photos of some of our kids from the fall Dance class trip to work on the latest mosaic in November. Hopefully we will get some of the kids to help unveil the mural with the artists--what an honor!

Mosaic Quilt Unveiling Celebration
Saturday, April 27

Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park
4055 Nicollet Avenue S., Minneapolis
1:00 – 2:30 pm

  • Celebration with Food and Music @ 1 pm
  • Presentation @ 1:30 pm/ Unveiling @ 2 pm

Come view the unveiling and celebrate installation of the Mosaic Quilt!

More than 300 neighbors (including our 7th & 8th graders in Allison's Dance as Art & Culture class who danced their way over to the SW senior center) volunteered over 1,500 hours to create 10 intricate, public art, glass “quilts”. The images are representations of our community’s various cultural textile patterns. The quilts will serve as symbol of welcome to all people at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.

The Mosaic Quilt is a project of the Southwest Senior Center and the Kingfield Neighborhood Association made possible by grants from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council and the City of Minneapolis.
