New Addition to 209
You may have already heard (seriously, I would be surprised, if you had not already heard!) that we have a new addition to Room 209.

There is no name yet, but there have been may suggestions. The name selection will involve a homework assignment this week, followed by a vote.

There are 3 ways that families can support our bearded dragon (affectionately referred to as “dragon” or “beardie”) -
        • purchase and deliver small crickets,
        • contribute to the Beardie Fund, which will subsidize the cost of crickets, lighting, and greens,
        • host our dragon over a school break (upcoming opportunities include Thanksgiving break, Winter break, Martin Luther King break, Presidents weekend). More information will follow.

Celebration of the Sun, Moon and Stars
Put this date on your calendar: Thursday, December 11. We will be celebrating our work during the study of the Sun, Moon and Stars. This will be an evening event from 6 – 7pm. Students will be sharing original poetry in a museum format. Families are encouraged to spend the entire hour visiting many different displays. This gives each student the opportunity to present multiple times to and small groups.

ExploraDome
The ExploraDome is coming to Barton on Wednesday.  We will have a 40-minute session inside the dome, where we will co-pilot a planetary tour, discovering the characteristics and relationships of objects in the solar system by exploring the Sun, planets, moon, and more, and learning how Earth fits in with the structure of the solar system.

A request for $5 was sent home last week to help cover the cost of this in-school field trip.

Math Opportunity
Are you interested in guiding a small group of students in math problem solving?  One group started this week with John Harris (Rory's dad) at the helm.  I would like to see at least one more small group get started.  I provide the problems, and you support the mathematicians as they use multiple strategies for solving.
