Classroom News 5/1/15
Friday, May 1, 2015 9:15 PM

Hello Families,

It has been an exciting spring in our classrooms.

Science

Observing mealworms, waxworms and painted lady butterflies, we are learning about life cycles and making comparisons between these insects. We’ve done lots of science writing creating diagrams, information charts, and reports. The kids are excited to share this work at portfolio sharing.

Writing Workshop

We have been working on a poetry unit. We are looking at the tools and techniques that poets use. We have been experimenting with line breaks, rhythm, repetition and imagery to create poems. On May 15th, 11:15 –1:30, we are going to have a walking field trip: We will have a picnic lunch at the Rose Gardens then go on a poetry treasure hunt. Our poems will be posted around the park on trees, benches, etc. We would love to have some parent volunteers come along. We also need to borrow two wagons to pull our lunches. A permission slip will be coming home next week.

Upcoming Events

•May 15th – picnic lunch at the Rose Gardens and poetry treasure hunt.

•May 22nd Chutes and Ladders field trip 9:30 – 1:00 (permission slip coming next week)
