Community/Council Coffee Talk
Wednesday, April 16, 2014 10:20 AM

Dear Barton Parents,

The Leadership Council -- a group of students, staff, parents and the principal -- is hosting several upcoming Council Coffees. We warmly invite you to join us to give your feedback and ideas. At the end of each school year Barton parents, those already on the Council and those not, have the opportunity to consider whether they would like to participate on the Leadership Council for the upcoming school year.

For many years, the process has been as such: any interested person submits a brief statement (3-5 sentences) about who they are and why they would like to serve on the Council. This becomes part of an endorsement ballot that the parent community reviews, and each adult selects approximately 10 names. Those who are endorsed by 50 or more people become a part of the Council for the next year.

Please come to one of the next two Council Coffees to a) learn more about the Leadership Council and whether this volunteer opportunity appeals to you; b) give the Council feedback on how we function and communicate; and c) offer ideas for possible revisions to the endorsement process. The Council's intention and hope is to be as transparent and accessible to those who want to participate. Give us your ideas as to how to improve this transparency and inclusivity.

Council Coffees: Thursday, April 17, 7:30 - 8:30 am and Thursday, April 24, 7:30-8:30.
Join us in the resource learning area outside of Patrice and Julie's classrooms on the main floor, north side of building

Even if you are not able to attend one of the Council Coffees, please always feel free to grab a Council member and share your ideas.

We will also have another Coffee with the Principal: Wednesday, May 7, 8:30 - 9:30 am, same location. Stay tuned for more details.

Wishing you the joys of spring,

Lori Zook-Stanley, parent co-chair
