This Week
Did you know Toyota means bountiful rice field and Honda means main rice field? About 589 million tons of paddy rice is produced every year. There are about 140,000 varieties of cultivated rice. Amazing! We will learn about rice this week. We will examine the different kinds of rice grown around the world and try a few recipes. Our math work is helping us think about place value and the importance of number order.

Finish your book for our final book club next Monday. Return the book when you are finished reading. Thanks!
Midwest Food Connection
Haruko worked with our class last Thursday. She helped us think about grains. This week we will learn more about vegetables.
On Saturday, Decemeber 11th, Kristin’s daughter, Amanda, and the rest of her girl scout troop are offering a night of babysitting. From 4-9pm at Mayflower Church the sixth grade girls (and Kristin) will enjoy games, pizza and more with your child. The cost is $20. Get some shopping done, eat out or even clean the house!
Projets with Our Buddies
Our project with our buddies is really coming along. We will meet two more times this week and get to present to Kristin’s class! We will be very ready for our Green Grocery field trip.

What a fun play! It was so much fun to see Ian in the play. Wasn’t it fabulous! I hope you were able to make it to the show. If not there’s always next year.
Water Challenge
We have a challenge for you! In Minnesota water is everywhere. Often times we aren’t even aware of when we use water. Let’s change that. Every time you use water on Saturday and Sunday, put a coin in the cup your child brought home. This means washing dishes, brushing your teeth, washing your hands and even flushing the toilet. After the weekend, bring the money to school as a donation to Give Us Wings and think about how we can conserve water in the future.
