Demonstration Project

Demonstration Project
Due Tuesday, January 11th, 2011
How to do a demonstration project at home.
1. Plan a timeline for finishing your project. There is about three weeks until the projects are due.
2. Pick a topic. Every child is good at something. Each child will get to tell the class about something they know how to do. The topic can be anything from caring for a pet to cooking something. Other topics may be how to sew, how to play a sport or how to play a favorite game. Help your child find something he or she is interested in and get ready to research.
3. Brainstorm the steps it takes to do your “thing.” For example, your child may want to teach the class how to whistle. Think about what you do with your mouth, your breath, and maybe how to aim the whistle. Take notes.
4. Decide how you plan to display your information. You may want to make a poster, an accordion book or a three part diorama. If you have a different idea, think it through.
5. Make your visual. There are two main parts to a display. First, you will include pictures of each step. This may be drawn or photographed. Second, you will include a written description of each step. Your child is expected to do his or her own work with your support. Written information may be handwritten or typed.
6. Practice presenting your project. Share your information with a family member, neighbor or friend. Be ready show what you know when you bring your project to school.
6. Bring your display to school by January 11th. A demonstration fair will be held on Friday, January 14th at 7:45 am.
