The Great Amaryllis Race
If you happen to be up on second floor at Barton, you can’t miss the beauty of 60 amaryllis plants in various stages of growth and blossom! It was amazing to return this week and see how much happened over the long weekend.

On Wednesday we got out the sketchbooks and drew the blossoms; large and off the page, just like Georgia O’Keeffe. Careful observation and slow contour drawing produced amazingly accurate works of art. The next step was watercolor, with continued attention to color. Stunning!

Students then put these artistic skills to work by creating sympathy cards. Our friend, Isaac’s grandmother passed away. So we looked at 8 different commercially created cards, borrowed and reworked phrases, then each student composed 2 beautiful note cards (one for Isaac and one for his mother, Julie). The messages were so thoughtful and heartfelt - such good friends!

Book Project
The Paper Bag Book Projects arrived on Wednesday and so far 6 students have shared and recommended their books. Very fun to hear and see what each reader found significant, humorous, and interesting in their individual titles! They will be displayed in the hallway later in the week.

Conferences
Conferences are starting this coming week. If you haven’t signed up for a time please check the attached schedule and let me know when you are available to meet. I will be sending reminders. I sent home a copy of the fall goal setting form and a reflection form that will assist us in planning for the remainder of this school year. If you need another copy please let me know.

Doodle 4 Google
This seems to be the year of the contest! This homework assignment (art + writing) is due on Wednesday, instead of the usual Tuesday due date.
