February 2013 Book Report

Due: 3 / 1 through 8 / 2013 - each student has an assigned presentation day

Book type: Biography or auto-biography of someone who interests you.

Report type: Puppet presentation: create a puppet of the subject of the biography. Use the puppet to present this persons life (using the first person).

  1. _____I prepared a fascinating, fact-filled presentation.
  2. _____I spoke with a loud, clear voice and had eye contact with the audience.
  3. _____I put effort into creating my puppet and used it creatively during the presentation.
  4. _____I really knew my character and memorized most of my report.
  5. _____I listened attentively during other presentations.

Part one: read the book.

As you are reading, take detailed notes about this person's life that will both inform and inspire your audience.

Part two: construct the puppet.

Use materials you already have at home or can easily acquire from a neighbor, your grandma, etc. (items that can be re-cycled and re-purposed rather than buying new) to construct your puppet. Your puppet should represent the person physically and also materially. For example, Babe Ruth might hold a bat and ball.

Part three: prepare the oral presentation.

  1. Prepare a five-minute oral report in the first person: "I was born..."
  2. Memorize as much as possible. Use note cards only (no full page reports in hand) to help.
  3. Use the puppet creatively - it should be moving
  4. Have fun!
