Report type: written, 1 - 2 pages

Purpose:  Describe a person, place, object or animal using your five senses, or as many as make sense for your subject.

FCAs (focus correction areas):

  1. 10 pts: Indent and begin a new paragraph when starting a new idea, creating an easy-to-follow, organized essay.
  2. 10 pts: Include a topic sentence for each paragraph that introduces the main idea in an interesting way.
  3. 10 pts: Use interesting and creative details to support your main idea, giving clear, vivid, images that appeal to the senses.

  1. Choose a subject and think about how you would describe it using sight, sound, touch, smell and taste.
  2. Write a rough draft, SKIPPING LINES or DOUBLE SPACING to facilitate corrections (if lines are not skipped, paper will need to be redone); use the FCAs to guide you.
  3. Read through the original handout for examples as needed.
  4. Write final draft, incorporating peer and teacher feedback as needed.
