Form, Function, and Variation Challenge HOMEWORK Due Oct. 8!
Thursday, October 2, 2014 7:50 AM

First it was the SPOON CHALLENGE.

Then it was the SHOE CHALLENGE.

Now, for one more challenge.

Step 1

Look around your house and / or garage for an object that has different variations.  Some suggestions are : chairs, boxes, writing tools, and bowls.  These are just some ideas to get you started.  They are not the only objects with variations.  Ask family members for ideas.  Be creative.

Assemble your collection in one location (if you can), and study them.

Which item got you started?  Think about its basic form (size, shape, color, texture, materials) and its function (purpose).

For each additional item in your collection, notice how the original form was changed (a new form) to meet another need or use (a new function).

Step 2

Make a 2 column chart of the items in your collection.

              Column 1: Name the item

              Column 2: Describe its function.

Begin with the item that started your collection.

Step 3

Bring your collection and a final draft of your chart to school on Wednesday, October 8.

We will have a Gallery Walk on Friday, so you can see the great variety of variations in form and function!
