As you know Barton has small footprint as a school and are located on a busy street. This reality creates challenges and a great need for carefully planned procedures at the beginning and end of the school day. After noting potentially dangerous situations for our precious children we began working with the transportation department to revise our morning student arrival procedures for the purpose of making the morning arrival as safe as possible. As a result, on Monday we will begin new procedures for dropping off students in the morning.  The major change is that in the morning all busses will drop off on 43rd or on Colfax. No longer will busses drop off on Bryant. Parents driving students to school will need to drop off on Bryant and will no longer be able to drop off on Colfax or 43rd  starting this Monday November 9.

In addition, we have the following requests of parents regarding drop-off and pick-up procedures.

  • Please cross the streets at designated cross walks with patrols both before and after school. Although, it is often quicker and easier to cross other places, it is important we model for students or they will be more likely to cross unsafely when not with a parent or adult.
  • Please honor the do not enter the parking lot sign in the morning as we have many students walking in the area around the parking lot entry/exit.
  • Please do not do a U turn around the school, but instead drive around the block.
  • Please do not park on Colfax after busses leave in the afternoon. We have busses that pick up for after school programs on Colfax. We are going to work with the city to make this no parking before 4:30 on school days but this could take some time

Next Wednesday, November 11, 2015 Wild Rumpus Book Fair will be happening at the books store on West 43rd Street in Linden Hills.  This is a time honored Barton tradition that supports our teachers and student reading needs by purchasing books that teachers have on their wish list and donating them to the school.  Additionally, Wild Rumpus donates a percentage of the proceeds of their sales that day back to Barton!  Finally, you will NOT want to miss the Barton Uppers Choir who will be performing at the Book Fair.
