Dear families,

I was grateful for the turnout of more than 500 parents who attended Parent Information Night last Thursday. The relationship between parents and staff helps create a strong program at Barton.
This week, we began the implementation of our Student Leadership Team (SLT) at Barton. More than 60 Uppers students applied for positions on five different teams that will engage them in leadership development focused on a specific area of passion. These five areas speak to the diverse nature of leadership and support the shared leadership and commitment to child and community development that we value at Barton. Representatives from each of these groups will also serve attend Leadership Council meetings (our first of which, is this Thursday, September 19 in the Media Center from 4:30 – 6:00). The five groups are listed below with their respective mission statements:

Barton SLT: Developing student leaders who are committed to community outreach, equity and inclusion, academic excellence, and personal & environmental health.

Open Ambassadors: Providing community outreach & welcoming new families (as well as prospective new families) and students to Barton

Clean and Green: Helping our school community make choices that are environmentally conscious and personally healthy.

Dare 2 Be Real: Raising intercultural awareness and eliminating racism while sharing experiences that help us understand our racial and cultural identity.

Backpack Tutors: Supporting student learning for all students & assisting students in school-wide student support programs.

Tech Squad: Empowering staff to use their technology tools effectively and ensuring that all events have the proper technological support.

We are excited to see the positive impact these groups will undoubtedly have on our school and the young people who serve in them!
